Thank You Letters

Only 5% of job seekers send a thank-you letter after being interviewed, yet this ia a crucial step in obtaining a job. Most employers consider a thank-you letter a courtesy. It sets you apart from the rest of the interviewees. Sometimes a manager can be wavering between two people. A thanko-you letter can make a diffference in  you getting the job verses you not getting the job.

Your letter can be typed or handwritten. It really does not matter as long as you send one. If the company culture dictates sending an e-mail or if they are going to be hiring soon then it is fine to send an e-mail, but follow up with a hard copy thank-you letter. If you want to add a personal touch send a handwritten thank-you card.

A sample interview thank-you letter can be found at http://www.quintcareers.com/sample_thank-you_letters.html It is fine to use the basic structure and maybe even a couple of key phrases. However, it is best not to use a word-for-word thank you letter. The employer could recognize it and not be impressed.

You should send a thank-you letter within 24 hours of the interview. One should be sent to each person you interviewed with. It can be basically the same letter with one or two sentences changed. if there is a point that you did not make or you did not make so well, now is the time to repeat it and reinforce it. You can use the thank you letter to repair any damage that might have been done in your interview.
