The Proper Dress for an Interview:
Wearing the proper dress attire is important for an
interview. When interviewing, your goal when choosing your attire is to
not make any type of negative impression. You want to be remembered for
what you say that day, and not for what you wear.
Attire for Women:
- Skirts need to be knee-length, even if the fasion is
to wear them shorter
- The length of your jacket should be determined by
your height. Taller women can wear a longer jacket that is either
single or dougle breasted. Short women need to wear a shorter jacket
that is single breasted.
- A simple, round-necked top is better than a shirt
when wearing it under a jacket.
- Coat dresses work well, as do sleeveless, knee-length
black dresses worn under full-length or shorter jackets.
- Stick with business spectrum colors such as navy,
grey, charcoal, or black.
Attire for Men:
- The dress-code rule of thumb for men interviewing at
most U.S. companies remains a dark suit, a light or white shirt and a
bright-colored but sophisticated tie.
- Men should unbutton their jacket before sitting down
- High-buttoned jackets are popular for me, with four
buttons or even more. Be sure to check how easily you will be able to
undo the buttons when sitting down.
- Men should wear polished shoes and dark dress socks.
- Shirts should be pressed and the top button should be
fastened.
