TL-V      Productivity and Professional Practice

TL1 -- TL2 -- TL3 -- TL4 -- TL5-- TL6 -- TL7 -- TL8

Educational technology leaders design, develop, evaluate and model products created using technology resources to improve and enhance their productivity and professional practice. Educational technology leaders:

a. Use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.

Artifact: Creation of Critical Thinking Activities
Course: MEDT 8480
Semester: Spring 2010

NETS Reflection:  This assignment required the creation of critical thinking activities to supplement an online course from McGraw-Hill.  My partner and I chose the Introduction to Literature Course.  We took each section of this course and designed a critical thinking activity that could be utilized by those who teach the course.  This assignment was done in an online course that is furthering my education and professional development.  I like the idea that we were creating activities for students participating in online courses while we ourselves are in an online course.  My time spent in school as both student and teacher has cultivated my interests in a great many things.  Not a day goes by that I am not looking up something for no other purpose than to increase my knowledge on that particular topic.  I feel that I am a learner for life.

b. Continually evaluate and reflect on professional practice to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of student learning.

Artifact: Program Evaluation Article Review 2
Course: MEDT 8480
Semester: Spring 2010

NETS Reflection:  This is one of many article reviews that were required throughout the program.  This particular article was an evaluation of a chemistry DVD module.  These types of research articles are an invaluable asset for those in positions to make decisions regarding the use and purchase of technological resources.  One would not want to purchase some sort of instructional aide without first performing the proper amount of research.  As an instructional technology specialist, I will be the one people come to seeking advice.

c. Apply technology to increase productivity.

Artifact: Study Island Tutorials
Course: MEDT 8467
Semester: Spring 2009

NETS Reflection:  When our school first obtained access to the Study Island Program, there existed a lack of knowledge among the staff on how to use the program. In order to keep from having repeating training sessions, I used this assignment to build a series of tutorials that show how to get started using the Study Island software.  By making these videos available to teachers in our school, they work through them at their own pace and on their own time.

d. Use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture student learning.

Artifact: Using Google Docs
Course: MEDT 7462
Semester: Spring 2009

NETS Reflection:  In this particular assignment we used the Google Docs program to collaborate with one another while exploring the capabilities and features of this application.  We found it to be a great tool for both teachers and students.  The great thing about collaboration tools which are becoming more popular, is how easy it is to share information.  As a teacher, it is now easier than ever to have a class website with assignments, tutorials, and links.  These environments are great places for students to display their work, leave feedback, and display to the community what it is they are learning.
