MEDT6401: Instructional Technology

An overview of communication and technology as it relates to teaching and learning; including the design, production and utilization of materials and operation of audiovisual equipment and microcomputers.

Assingment 3.1: Inspiration

In the Inspiration assignment, I created a concept map to plan for my ASSURE lesson that is due at the end of the semester. I included the GPS my ASSURE lesson would cover, a learner description and participation description, my objectives, a materials list, and an evaluation of learners plan. This assignment helped me practice objective four of the course objectives, which is “design, use, and evaluate instructional technology to enhance productivity and professional development” because I used a program I had never used before, Inspiration, to create a concept map for a lesson. This assignment helped enhance my productivity, because as I moved through the course, I was able to refer to the assignment to help create my final ASSURE lesson plan.

Assignment 3.2: Rubistar

In the Rubistar assignment, I created a rubric using the online service Rubistar. I created a basic writing rubric I can use to evaluate student writing for multiple assignments. This assignment helped me practice objective number two of the course objectives, which is “examine a variety of technology planning and instructional design techniques that are supported by technology and apply those techniques that are appropriate to make program improvements.” I used technology to create an assessment tool, the writing rubric, that I can use to evaluate my students for multiple assignments in the classroom.

Assingment 3.3: Trackstar

In the Trackstar assignment, I created a reference list of 8 websites that students can use for a project about Art in the Spanish speaking world. Before I added the websites to the track I created, I evaluated them to ensure they would serve the needs of students and were easy to navigate. This assignment helped me practice objective 6 of the course objectives, which states, “increase their awareness of the importance and the role of instructional technology in the teaching/ learning process and apply successful technology integration strategies in the curriculum.” This assignment helped me practice this objective because I used a technology to help create a reference list for students, therefore I used an instructional technology strategy.

Assignment 3.4: Task Analysis

In the Task Analysis assignment, I created a task analysis list for my ASSURE lesson. This assignment helped me practice objective 3 of the course objectives, which states, “become familiarized with a variety of strategies and techniques for evaluating technology-related activities in the classroom and apply those techniques that are appropriate to make improvements in the integration of technology in the curriculum.” This assignment helped me practice this objective because I had to become familiar with the technique of task analysis, which helped me evaluate my ASSURE lesson, so that I could make improvements for this technology based lesson.

Assignment 3.5: Copyright Activity

In the Copyright assignment, I read several websites related to copyright law, used what I learned while reading about copyright to evaluate the Acceptable Use Policy of the school district I work in, and wrote an activity that would help students understand copyright laws, as well as wrote a copyright policy I can apply in my classroom. This activity helped me practice objective number 7 of the course objectives, which is, “become familiar with professional organizations and publications focusing on leadership, instructional technology, and media.” This assignment helped me practice this objective because I had to read publications about copyright law that helped me understand how to create policies related to copyright that can be applied in the classroom.

Assignment 3.6: Addressing Diversity with Technology

In the Addressing Diversity activity, I read and evaluated technology that can be used to differentiate instruction for ESL students, as well as created a lesson plan that can be used to implement these technologies in the classroom. This helped me practice objective 5 of the course objectives, which states, “understand the social, ethical, legal and human issues that surround the use of technology in the classroom and develop programs that demonstrate that understanding.” This assignment helped me practice this objective because I had to read and evaluate technologies for diverse students, and then create an activity that can be used to help address the needs of diverse students.

In the Behavioral Objectives assignment, I wrote a behavioral objective for my ASSURE lesson plan. This assignment helped me practice objective 8 of the course objectives, which states, “model effective instructional technology management and supervision techniques in the school setting.” This assignment helped me practice this objective because the behavioral objective of a lesson helps guide the tasks and skills to be practiced in the lesson, which models effective management of instructional technology techniques. I re submitted this assignment, because in my first behavioral objective, I included 2 things for the students to focus on while they watched the video, and Dr. Bray suggested the students only focus on one thing in the ASSURE lesson. I think this will make it easier for students, and they won't feel as overwhelmed while watching the commercial.

Assignment 3.8 Website Evaluation

In this assignment, I evaluated the website http://www.lonelyplanet.com/south-america. I used the rubric given for the assignment, then went through and evaluated the website with the rubric. I also wrote a brief description of the site, why I chose the site, and then gave an overall recommendation at the end. This assignment helped me practice objective 3 of the course objectives, which states, “become familiarized with a variety of strategies and techniques for evaluating technology-related activities in the classroom and apply those techniques that are appropriate to make improvements in the integration of technology in the curriculum.” This assignment helped me practice that objective because I had to evaluate a site that I would use in a technology based lesson.

Assignment 3.9 My Webquest

In the My WebQuest assignment, I created a webquest entitled Arte Espanol. In the webquest, students have to create a power point presentation about the artists they can see in the Prado museum and the Reina Sofia museum in Madrid, Spain. Students have 2 choose 2 artists to highlight in their presentation as well; a modern artists and a classical artist. In this assignment I practiced objective number one of the course objectives, which states, “increase their understanding of technology operations, concepts, and the factors that impact the effective integration of technology into the classroom setting and apply those techniques to facilitate the successful infusion of technology in the curriculum.” This assignment helped me practice this objective because I had to become familiar with the format of webquests, and create my own webquest that can be integrated into the curriculum.

Assignment 3.10 ASSURE Lesson Plan

In the ASSURE lesson plan assignment, I wrote a lesson plan using the ASSURE model. I wrote a lesson where students have to watch a commercial in Spanish, and search for the use of a verb Estar in the commercial. In this assignment I practiced objective 9, which states, “locate and synthesize literature in instructional technology from a multitude of sources.” The assignment helped me practice this objective because I had to read information about the ASSURE lesson plan model, and then use that information to create a lesson that uses technology.

Assignment 3.11 Technology Lesson Plan

In the technology based lesson plan assignment, I created a lesson plan that uses 2 of the Microsoft office suite programs in the lesson, and then reflected on the technology I chose to include in the lesson. This lesson helped me practice objective one of the course objectives, which states, “increase their understanding of technology operations, concepts, and the factors that impact the effective integration of technology into the classroom setting and apply those techniques to facilitate the successful infusion of technology in the curriculum.” This assignment helped me practice this objective because I had to create a lesson that uses technology that can be integrated into the curriculum.

Assingment 3.12 SAM Spreadsheet

In this assignment, I created a report from the SAM website of all of the assignments I have completed in SAM. The report lists the dates the assignments were completed, how many questions were in the assignment, and what my score was on the assignment. This assignment helped me practice objective 4 of the course objectives, which states, “design, use and evaluate instructional technology to enhance their productivity and professional development.” The SAM assignments helped me practice this objective because I had to use instructional technology to enhance my productivity and professional development. After using the methods I learned in the SAM tutorials, I will definitely increase productivity because I am able to use the programs covered in the tutorials more effectively.

Assignment 3.13 Web Based Portfolio

In this assignment, I created a web based portfolio that has all of my assignments, as well as reflections of those assignments, and how the assignments tie in with the course objectives. This assignment helped me practice objective 2 of the course objectives, which states, “examine a variety of technology planning and instructional design techniques that are supported by technology and apply those techniques that are appropriate to make program improvements.” I have never created a web page before this semester, and creating this web portfolio has shown me how useful it could be as a teacher to post assignments and other important class information on the web. This was my favorite activity in the class.

In this assignment, I created a CD that includes all of my assignments from the course MEDT6410. This assignment helped me practice objective 6 of the course objectives, which states, “increase their awareness of the importance and the role of instructional technology in the teaching/ learning process and apply successful technology integration strategies in the curriculum.” This assignment helped me practice this objective because it showed me another method I could use to relay important information to students and parents.

3.15 ASSURE lesson (video)

In this lesson, I created a video of my ASSURE lesson. This assignment helped me practice several objectives in the course objectives, because I had to create a lesson using technology, and record and upload that lesson in a format that will be accessible to users (I chose a QuickTime movie format.)
