I have heard for years that the "new" math is very confusing for students and parents and I am here to set the record straight. The "new" math is the same as the old math or what we call Standard Algorithm. The idea of the "new" math is just another way to help students understand the process of what they are doing as they follow a process to solve an equation. In fourth grade math, my goal is to teach students how and why they are following steps to solve a problem, not just because that's the way it has always been done. I am glad you have choosen to visit my webpge and learn this "new" math with us. I hope that you will leave this site feeling more confident about what your child is learning in fourth grade math, and why.
