Biographical Summary w/h embed quiz(zes)

As this curriculum web covers the GPS 2nd grade standard SS2H1, I feel at the onset students should read a short summary of each of the historical Georgians listed in the standard: James Oglethorpe, Tomochichi, Mary Musgrove, Sequoyah, Jackie Robinson, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Jimmy Carter. To help the teacher with formative assessment, by which I mean that the teacher knows the student(s) understands the main idea(s), I will build and embed a small quiz after each biographical summary.

Webquest(s) / Embedded Video / Hyperlinks
To help students get off to a good start in their research process I will create webquests with embedded videos and hyperlinks to websites I have evaluated for content and reading level.

Multimedia Tools / Web 2.0
In that I want to encourage students to individually select how to augment their speeches, (which will cover the GPS standards), I will build in resources and support for several multimedia and Web 2.0 tools such as:

a.) a frame for a PowerPoint presentation
b.) links to a website in which students may create and print out a timeline
c.) information sheet and introductory video about how to create a Glog

Social Networking
As it is important for students to collaborate and share resources outside the classroom I will set up links for students in our class Edmodo account. Students may also use typewithme to collaborate in the creation of any word documents necessary. An additional blog resource may be included at a later date.

Student Portfolio
Students will scan documents, upload images, videos, voice recordings, etc. for their own use in reflecting their learning. Each student will have a flash drive or rewriteable DVD in which they will collect documentation of their work throughout the year. As this lesson is designed for a gifted resource environment this portfolio will be added to and reflected on for more than one year. Periodically, students will meet with their teacher(s), peers and parents to showcase and reflect upon their progress.
