What is a food chain?

All living things, including you and I, get the energy they need from food. Plants make their own food, and for that reason they are called producers. From there, energy flows through the food chain to consumers. All food chains end with decomposers, which break down remaining matter into nutrients that are absorbed by plants, thus starting the food chain over again.
