It's Pay Day! Congratulations! You've been hired to work your dream job. Today, you received your first paycheck. You've already planned how you're going to spend all your money. But then, you open the envelope... To your surprise, the actual check amount is less than what you had expected. You see where Federal Income Tax, Georgia Income Tax, Social Security and Medicare have been subtracted from your gross pay. What are they? How did your employer come up with these amounts? To answer these questions, you must learn how to calculate net pay. Activities Through tutorials and simulations, you will learn about the deductions, taxes, and calculations that determine your take-home pay. Follow the Money Trail Each group will calculate the net pay for a hypothetical employee and create a sample paystub. The group will also produce a teaching aid to introduce the concepts learned to their peers. Each student will also produce a sample paystub for themselves based on their own career aspirations. They will also write a reflection describing an affordable lifestyle based on the resulting net pay. Feedback |
