Deductions

Payroll deductions are amounts that are subtracted from an employee's gross pay. There are two basic types of deductions. Statuatory deductions are required by law. Employees request to have voluntary deductions subtracted from their pay.

Activities

1. Collect a list of 4 statutory deductions and 6 voluntary deductions. Find examples on sample paycheck stubs online, looking at your own paystub or asking a parent or guardian about the deductions that come out of their paycheck.

2. Write a description for each deduction from each group members' list. Create deduction flashcards and a vocabulary quiz for your peers in Quizlet.
