The Ho Chi Minh Trail was used by the North Vietnamese to provide supplies and military personnel to fight in South Vietnam. The trail disguised itself by meandering through triple canopy jungles. Triple canopy jungles are so thick that shot down American Helicopters could get stuck in the second layer of the canopy, and the helicopter would be invisible to planes overhead and to American ground forces patrolling the area. American forces were unable to see through such dense vegetation and decided to enact Operation Ranch Hand to counteract the advantage the jungle gave to the North Vietnamese.
After an area had been sprayed with Agent Orange, B-52 Bombers would drop thousands of bombs on the jungle in order to ensure no vegetation grew back to mask the movements of North Vietnamese forces. The bombs would hit the deteriorating jungles and turn them into a wasteland that can be visited to this day.
