An Explanation for the Descriptor “Knowledgeable” |
Educators should be able to demonstrate general knowledge inherent in a liberal arts curriculum, advanced knowledge in content areas, and specific knowledge in professional education for the implementation of transformational systemic change. Moreover, the educator’s acquisition of knowledge is paramount to being able to disseminate knowledge to the learner. Griffin, Dodds, and Rovegno (1996) indicated that educators need a pedagogical content knowledge base that will allow them to plan learners’ activities, instructional strategies, and sequential content. By broadening the knowledge base and highlighting the educator’s production of knowledge, teaching can become a more mutually beneficial occurrence (Golombek, 1994). Because knowledge is increasing at an exponential rate, Winston (2000) suggested that we need to answer the basic question, “What do we need to know and do to improve the outcomes for all young children”. With a strong knowledge base, educators will be prepared better to initiate school improvement. |

I knew what I needed to know to improve the learning outcomes of my students. By being and demonstrating that I am a knowledgeable teacher, I am prepared to initiate school improvement.
Click SST ABC Book to view my book where I demonstrate that I am knowledgeable. During Block IV, in my Senior Seminar Class, we had to create an SST ABC Book. This book would be given to the parents to help them understand the terminology and procedures of SST. In order to create this book, I had to demonstrate knowledge of the Student Support Team. By demonstrating knowledge of this matter and its materials also proves to my student's parents that I am knowledgeable of information in my field.
