MEDT 7467: Web Development for Instruction
Intermediate level course on design, development and formative evaluation of web-based instructional systems. Web page design strategies based on research on effective practice are emphasized. Students use software development tools to create and evaluate interactive lessons including strategies for assessing learning achievement.

Assignment 3.1 Introduction to the Virtual Lab

I am very inexperienced with using Dreamweaver, but am happy to say that my site is created and working!  Right now, I am still feeling very overwhelmed with the program.  I am sure that things will go more smoothly as I become more comfortable with the software.

Assignment 3.2 Georgia Statehood: A WebQuest

I have learned a lot about Dreamweaver through this assignment and the tutorial.  I have created WebQuests before, so I completely understand that component.  I like the idea of creating the content in Word and then uploading into Dreamweaver rather than creating everything in Dreamweaver itself.  It will help reduce the time that I spend using the virtual lab.

Assignment 3.3 Creating Your Own WebQuest

I thoroughly enjoyed creating my own WebQuest for this assignment.  I have past experience with WebQuests, but now that I know how to create one using a webpage, I hope to use them more frequently.  The only major hindrance that I am concerned about is the availability of computers in my school.

Assignment 3.4. Initial Curriculum Plan

This assignment was more challenging for me than the previous ones.  Even though I am becoming more comfortable with Dreamweaver, I still ran into some formatting issues.  I spent a lot of time trying to get my page to look just right, and the content required a lot of planning as well.

Assignment 3.5 Creating Navigation Icons with Photoshop

I really like the end result of this assignment.  The rollover images add a lot of visual interest to my page.  However, creating them was extremely involved and I am not sure that I would be able to create more of the icons without watching the tutorial again.  Surely there is a simpler way to do this.

Assignment 3.6 Creating a Curriculum Web Homepage

The homepage looks great.  I now understand how I will need to set up my own pages so that the user will be able to navigate between them.  I am beginning to feel more comfortable with the formatting styles, but do not feel that I could achieve the same results without assistance.

Assignment 3.7 Sequencing Learning Activities using Concept Maps

I have used Inspiration in the past and had no problems creating my concept map.  I have included a lot of activities that I would use in the classroom to teach a science unit about classification, but I am not sure if they will all be appropriate for my curriculum web.  I am sure that I will have to make a few changes to the concept map.

Assignment 3.8 Georgia Statehood: The Story of William McIntosh

I really like the embedded quizzes and Googledocs.  This assignment was relatively easy compared to some of the other ones.  I hope that I will be able to create everything myself without the tutorial!  I did have a few problems with the right-justified images which was a bit frustrating.

Assignment 3.9 Adding Learning Activities

This assignment has helped me refine my curriculum web.  It has helped me organize my thinking and evaluate the activities that I am planning to include.  I am still not sure about some of the activities. For example, should I include things that are not web-based or should students be able to complete the curriculum web with very little teacher support?

Assignment 3.10 Georgia Statehood: The Yazoo Land Fraud

The tips and tricks that I learned in this assignment will be very helpful.  I like the popups that were created for difficult vocabulary words.  It’s a great way to support lower level learners.  The quiz is also a great way for students to check their own understanding of the material as they complete the activity.  Working in split mode is still extremely confusing to me.  I am so concerned that I will make mistakes that cannot be undone!

Assignment 3.11 The Assessment Plan

I am beginning to realize that my curriculum web may still be a little too broad.  I think I am going to have to narrow my focus so that the activities are straightforward, manageable, and easy to assess.  Again, I am still trying to decide whether or not to include activities that are not web-based.

Assignment 3.13 Linking Learning Activities

I am continuing the streamlining process for my curriculum web.  I think the concept map is probably the most important part of this process.  If I had created this first and made sure that the activities were exactly the way that I want them, some of the other steps would have been much easier.  Now I need to go back and make a few changes to other pages.

Assignment 3.15 Creating Your Curriculum Web

I am so glad to have a homepage for my curriculum web now.  I think it will help me stay organized and make sure that my curriculum web is more cohesive as I update my pages.  It is rather bland at the moment.  I hope to add icons to the menu bar rather than just the linked words to make it a little more jazzy.

Assignment 3.16 Creating Your Curriculum Web: Multimedia

The multimedia elements that I have added to my curriculum web make it much more appealing. Conveniently, the videos that I found on National Geographic's website offered an "embed" option, enabling me to copy and paste the information into the code of my webpage. I spent a lot of time looking for videos and images that were just right, but overall the process was relatively user friendly.

Assignment 3.17 The Website Evaluation Plan

Considering the amount of time that i have invested in my curriculum web, it is difficult for me to view it from an objective perspective. Therefore, having an evaluation plan in place that incorporates the viewpoints of other teachers will uncover any errors or omissions. By piloting the curriculum web in my classroom before using it on a wider scale I will be able to address any complications that I have not planned for.

Assignment 3.18 Interactivity

The quiz questions that I have embedded from GoogleDocs will be a great assessment tool for me to use as my students complete the activities in my curriculum web. The students' answers will be compiled in my spreadsheet, enabling me to pinpoint areas that are causing students to struggle. This technique is both simple and very useful.

Assignment 3.19 The Teaching Plan

I have tried to consider all of the questions that a teacher would need answered while I completed this assignment. I have made my instructional plan as self-explanatory as possible, and have explained how the activities should be approached. I would not need such detailed instructions myself, since I created the curriculum web, but I hope that this plan would make it feasible for another teacher to use the curriculum web as well.
