Pollution Overview PowerPoint
Assessment Rubrics

At this point you should have already completed your Pollution Overview PowerPoint assignment and are now ready to continue with the enrichment portion of the curriculum web.  You will have the option of completing one of three activities.  Each activity will be assessed using the rubric found on the "Assessment Rubrics" page in this site.  These activities are designed to be much less structured in order to encourage your creativity in completing them, however, there will only be one school week and one weekend's worth of time to complete your work (Monday - Monday).  Each assignment and a brief explanation and expectation are listed below:

  1. Write a Song:  For this option, your group will write lyrics to a song highlighting one or all of the environmental issues mentioned in this unit.  The song needs to be full-length (at least 2.5 minutes) and can either be completely original or new lyrics written into an established song.  You can either perform the song live for class or, if you wish, film it as a music video.

  2. Create a Business Proposal:  With this option, your group will assume the role of environmental protection consultants that European governments (Germany, United Kingdom, or Ukraine) have come to in order to solve the pollution issues in their country.  Some potential activities could include another PowerPoint, a working model presentation, or something completely different.  Basically, it is your job to convince that particular country that you can solve their problems efficiently, effectively, and, most importantly, inexpensively.

  3. Write and Perform a Skit:  Your third option involves writing and performing a short play, also called a "skit".  You should highlight the events that cause one or all types of pollution discussed in this unit, the effects of those pollutants, what the European countries we've discussed in this unit have done to solve these issues, and, finally, include more potential solutions for the environmental issues.

Remember, this activity is truly meant to be enrichment and it is a chance for you to get creative.  There are less restrictions to encourage your creativity.  If there is another idea that your group has for an activity, please let Mr. Callaway know and we will discuss whether or not it will work for your group.
