Week 2
Welcome to the Wild West! This week we will be investigating Cowboys, Cattle Trails, andthe Black Cowboys of Texas.
As America’s population grew following the Civil War and reconstruction, so did its taste for beef. The majority of the people in the

United States still lived along the East Coast which was not a great place to raise huge herds of cattle. The Western part of United States had plenty of room for the cattle to roam free but how would the ranchers get the cattle to Eastern markets?.....herd them to the nearest railhead to ship them East!
Your group has been hired by the “Back in Time Travel Agency” to design a travel brochure to entice travelers to visit the Wild West Cattle Trails of the late 1800s. There are two specific travel routes that the agency wants you to focus on for the brochure: the Great Western Cattle Trail and the Chisholm Trail. Travelers will want to know where the routes begin, where they end, and about one major stop along each route and what they might see (or NOT see) at the stop. A small map of the trails must be included in your brochure. You also need to include biographical information about their potential guide; one of the Black Cowboys of Texas. The biographical information needs to include how he became a cowboy and his job description. The travelers will also want to know how they might be entertained by their guide, what they might eat along the way, and general travel and sleeping conditions.
Divide the work into 4 parts. One team member work on the Chisholm Trail, one member on the Great Western Trail, one member on the Black Cowboy biography, and one team member to design and edit the brochure. Use the provided links to gather your information for each part and create a brochure with Microsoft Publisher.

Use the rubric to ensure that your brochure contains all the details for full points. This is a travel brochure that will be used to entice potential travelers to travel back in time and ride along on a cattle drive. While this time period and was “tough” to live and work in, this might be appealing to a seasoned traveler looking for adventure. In other words, don’t gloss over details; include all the “tough” details so that a true picture of the time period is conveyed through your brochure.
