Project Seven - Photograph with a Reflection

Dock Reflection

Title – Peaceful Summer Day
Tags- dock, reflection, Lake Peachtree, Digital Photography Class

For this assignment, we could choose to take a picture with flash, night- time photography, or a photograph with a reflection.  I tried many pictures from these selections, but I decided to use this one for reflection because it evokes a sense of serenity to me.  When looking at this picture, I get a sense of calmness and wistfulness that I would like to be sitting on this dock enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
This assignment had value to me because it gave me the opportunity to try flash photography during the day which I never knew you could or should use flash during the day.  I took some excellent pictures of my son in bright daylight with flash and it got rid of shadows that were there prior to using the flash.  I tried some night-time photography with and without flash.  I had a lot of fun trying the different options for this assignment.  I chose to include this reflection picture because I love the soft reflection in the wavy water.  The wavy water creates a more dreamlike feel to the photo.  I imagine if the water was still, I would have a completely different photo with more sharp definition of the dock but I love this picture just the way it is.

I chose the title, Peaceful Summer Day, and tags to describe the photograph and for easy reference in searching for the picture in the future.  I exceeded on all the comments I made for my peers as I gave thorough comments and constructive feedback.   It is becoming more challenging to offer constructive feedback as the quality of pictures have improved as the semester has progressed.

I believe I could use this type of photograph in an educational setting on the reflective qualities of water.  In fourth grade science, light is a comprehensive unit and in that unit we teach the reflectivity of water.  Water can give a perfect reflection or a slightly fuzzy reflection depending on its stillness.  This could be a good visual of that property of water.
