Project Eight - Creative Filter

Flower

Title – Crisp Flower A’Glow
Tags- flower, orange, creative filter, Digital Photography Class
For this assignment, we could choose from double exposure or creative filters.  The creative filters in Photo Shop Elements 8 are amazing.  They each give a completely different feel to the picture.  I loved experimenting with them.

This assignment had value to me because it showed me the importance of having my camera with me at all times to be ready for a great picture.  My daughter and I were picking up her friend when I spied this orange flower in her friend’s front yard.  I was a little hesitant to get out and shoot the picture, but finally I relented and captured this great image.  Well, it wasn’t so great at first.  It had a petal in the left side that after comments from my yellow group, I realized the petal looked like a thumb!  It was not a thumb, but when I added the creative filters they emphasized the flower and the petal looked horrible.  I experimented with lots of tools until I got it where I like it.

I chose the title, Crisp Flower A’Glow because the creative filter kind of made the flower look like crisp paper.  The tags were used to describe the picture and for easy reference in searching for the picture in the future.  I exceeded on all the comments I made for my peers as I gave detailed comments and thoughtful feedback.  Since this picture could be a double exposure or creative filter, it was interesting to see what my teammates chose to do and I learned from their techniques.

I believe I could use this type of photograph in an educational setting on a lesson about contrast.  The orange flower stands out so well against the black background.  Imagine if I had this orange flower against a yellow background.  The whole picture would have a completely different look and feel.
