Goal: The theme of 3rd grade enrichment is “systems” and the airplane unit exemplifies not only how a single system works, but also how systems interact with other systems. It also instills a love of aviation and its rich history and impact on our society.

Objective: Students will understand that there are 4 forces of flight: lift, drag, gravity & thrust and that all parts of airplanes work together as part of a system.

Standard: Students will understand how an airplane is a system (the whole depends on its parts).
