The Eco-Challenge website is divided into an entry page, four sub-sections, and a supplementary page. Each section has its own learning activities. Differentiation, where applicable, will be provided through choices in the type of product produced.
- The entry page, delivered in the style of a comic book, serves as a hook to develop interest in the remainder of the site. Students will encounter "characters" on the entry page that they will see again as icons within the website.
- Introductory video: “The Nature of Ecosystems”
- Students will view a short video that explain eco-systems and the related vocabulary.
- Activity One
- Activity Two: Webquest
- Students will complete the Eco-system designer webquest. Completed projects will demonstrate their understanding of this content.
- Introductory video: “Energy Flow in Ecosystems”
- Students will view a short video that explains the roles of producers, consumers, and decomposers and the related vocabulary.
- Activity One
- Introductory video: “Food Chains”
- Students will view a short video that explains the interrelationships of a food chain and the related vocabulary.
- Activity One
- Activity Two: Webquest
- Students will complete the Ranger Webquest. Completed projects will demonstrate their understanding of this content.
- Introductory video: “Adaptations for Obtaining Food”
- Students will view a short video that explains how organisms undergo physical or behavioral adaptations to ensure survival.
- Activity One
- Vocabulary activities and flash activities will be available on a supplemental page. The flash activities go slightly beyond the requirements of 4th grade Life Science standards and can be used as enrichment.
