Comic Book Nation Book Review

By: Michael Goodroe

Comic books are not a traditional part of historical study, but one historian found that his love for comic books and history were very close aligned. Bradford W. Wright, in his book entitled Comic Book Nation, documents the history of comic books, the comic book industry, and how comic books have tracked many of the political, cultural, sociological, and economic events related to the United States. He brings attention to the role that comic books have played in our society since the 1930's, and he documents all aspects of how society accepted and rejected this form of media as the industry transformed through the Great Depression, World War II, the Cold War, Vietnam War, Rock and Roll culture and modern times. The book uncovers the role of comic books as part of our historical footprint.
