An Explanation for the Descriptor "Reflective"

Educators should be able to demonstrate reflective, critical thinking skills in order to engage effectively in transformational systemic change.  We are dedicated to developing educators to think actively about practice in order to improve their teaching and to facilitate student learning (Freese, 1999).  There must be a connection between practitioners and the educators of practitioners in terms of dialogue, critical inquiry, and reflective practices (McIntyre & Byrd, 1996) in order to process such connections.  Strategies to foster reflective and critical thinking skills include delineation of the problem, information gathering, and diagnosis and evaluation in which information is used to transform the educational process (Strohm & Baukus, 1995).
