Genetics Weekly Webquest
|
Introduction
Georgia Public Broadcasting is in the process of creating a weekly special about genetics. Many issues such as cloning and genetic modification will be discussed. These topics require a lot of background knowledge. In order to help the public make informed decisions, the creators of Genetics Weekly would like to create easy to understand explanations of background topics to post on their website. This is where you come in!
Task
The producers of Genetics Weekly have heard about the outstanding technology skills at Lovinggood Middle School. They have hired us to create 4 narrated power points that present the background knowledge necessary for their programming. Each power point should include 5 narrated slides lasting at least 2 minutes. The topics include: DNA, Genes, Chromosomes, and Proteins. Remember, your presentation should be easy to understand and must include information beyond the basic definition of the word.
Process
Before you decide on your topic, go to the Learn Genetics website and tour for the 4 questions listed below. http://learn.genetics.utah.edu/content/begin/tour/
Based on what you have learned, pick a topic. Notify Mrs. Kilkenny of your choice and then investigate your topic using the links listed below. You will be grouped based on your choice. As a group, create a story board for your presentation including the script that will narrate the presentation. Get approval for your storyboard before you begin the presentation. Each class will judge the submitted power points, and pick one from each topic to send to the producers at Georgia Public Broadcasting.
