Assignment FAQs for CS 1020 and CS 1030

Assignment #3:
Microsoft Office Powerpoint



NOTE 1 - Read the directions for the assignment and read the appropriate chapters in your book BEFORE you start to work on the assignment.

NOTE 2 - The pupose of these FAQs is NOT to walk you through the assignment, but to answer specific questions you might have about the assignment.  If you need furthur assistance please see #2.

Answers:

1 - The program necessary to complete this assignment is Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007.  If you happen to have Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 that is fine as well.  We will accept files in both the .ppt and the .pptx format.  Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise Edition is available from the school for free.  It can be obtained at SITS during their normal business hours.  Please see the link to SITS for these hours and their location on Front Campus Drive.  If you wish the assignment can also be completed in one of the open labs on campus as they will have Microsoft Office installed on the lab machines.



2 - If you still need help with this assignment after you have gone through this FAQ please sign on to the teletutoring service where your question(s) can be answered.  The link for the teletutoring service will be in the course outline.  To get help by e-mail you can e-mail cs1020@westga.edu if you are in CS 1020 or cs1030@westga.edu if you are in CS 1030.  If you would prefer to be helped in person you can come to TLC 1-115 (the csX lab) and you can recieve help from one of the teaching assistants working there.



3 - There should be two things that appear on the title slide: 1.) The title of your slide show and 2.) your name.



4 - To insert a graphic (it can be a picture of yours (off of MySpace, Facebook, Flickr, etc.) or it can be a piece of clipart that come packaged with PowerPoint) into a PowerPoint slide you first need to make sure you are on the slide you want to insert that graphic into.  Then you click on the "Insert" tab on the menu bar.  In the "Illustrations" group you will find options to insert a "Picture" or "ClipArt" or several other options.  If you chose to insert a picture a browse window will open that will allow you to look for and select the picture you want to imbed in your slide.  
If you chose to insert a piece of clipart a window will appear that allows your to search through the clipart that comes packaged with PowerPoint 2007.



5 - To insert WordArt into a slide you 
first need to make sure you are on the slide you want to insert that graphic into.  Then you click on the "Insert" tab on the menu bar.  In the "Text" group you will find option to insert WordArt into your slide.  After selcting the style of WordArt that you want from the menu that pops up after you click on the "WordArt" button you will be able to enter the text you want to use as WordArt in the box that ppears on your slide.  you will also be able to position the WordArt as you want by draging it around.



6 - To insert a 2 column slide all you have to do in to first create a new slide by clicking the "New Slide" button in the "Slides" section of the "Home" toolbar.  After you have created that new slide right-click on in in the slide sorter menu in the far left side of the PowerPoint window and then selct "Layout" and then "Two Content" from the popup menus that you see.  Your new slide should then have 2 columns.



7 - To animate text or slide transitions first you need to click on the "Animations" tab in the menu bar.  From there you can selest the slide transitions you want to use as well as any text animations you wish to use.  To selest a text animation look through the drop-down menu in the "Animations" section and to selest a slide transition look through the options in the "Transition To This Slide" section.
