Ordering Checks
Checks can be expensive.
They come in all sizes, fonts, colors and different backgrounds. However, the check needs to be of a good
quality ‘micr’ ink in order to be read by the financial institute
machine. If they are non-readable
the bank can
require you to order different checks.
When working at a financially institute and since I have found
unless
you qualify for FREE checks at the bank (they are generally generic
green or
blue) then it is a lot less expensive to order checks from another
source.
Most companies prefer to see your address and phone number on your check. DO NOT put your social security number or drivers license number on printed checks.
Checks can be ordered from these sites or many others. The Sunday paper generally has inserts from companies to allow you to order checks. One thing to consider when ordering checks is how am I going to keep up with the checks I’ve written. Duplicate checks are more expensive but you retain a copy of the check you have written. A less expensive way, but helpful is to order checks with a top stub or side stub or record the check information on. The cheapest checks require you to list the check in a register or online program.
Lastly, is the starting number.
Business prefer to see high starting numbers
on checks, they know you have had the account a long time.
If given the option start with 500 or 1000.
