On the February 26th 2002, I (Raymond Rogers), had a severe pain under my right Rib Cage, this kept me awake all night, and thought it was a Gall Stone. I went to my doctor on the 02-27-2002 he examined me and, ordered an Ultra Sound the result showed no Gall Stone problem, but an Aneurysm 5.1cms in size. (The pain that kept me awake was only a pocket of wind).
On 02-28-2002 had a CT Scan, which confirmed the AAA. On 03-1-2002 my doctor organised a Surgeon to examine me, he requested further tests, and complete check up for both Heart and Lungs. Age is 76 years, and have not smoked since 04-12-1990, and am in reasonable health).
The Surgeon gave me the offer of open surgery or stent graft. In my working life was an Engineering Inspector, and opted for the Open Surgery as it had had good previous results. Was operated on 04-10--2002, everything went well, have had no problems. Was discharged from hospital on 04-22-2002.
I am able to do some work around the garden, providing I take it easy, realising that my strength will improve the more exercise I do. I would recommend the AAA open surgery operation.
