It was in August of 2002 that I was rushed to the hospital with severe abdominal pains and a severe backache. The EMTS treated me as if it was something to do with my stomach. While I was in the emergency room I started to vomit so they inserted a tube into my nose into the stomach. They ran several tests and cat scans and ultra sounds and discovered I had a small abdominal aneurysm and one behind my heart.
In the next six months it started to grow and I was sent to a Board-certified advanced endovascular associate.
I had not had any family members that had a history of aneurysms, and wasn't familiar with the abdominal aortic aneurysm. I knew about the ones of the brain as my husband had two of them and his father had died of one in the brain stem.
My doctors decided to do the surgery and decided that my veins were too small for the stent, so they decide the best for me was the open abdominal surgery.
I had my surgery June 29, 2005 and was released July 5th. I came home with staples and will have them removed the 12th of July.
So far thank the Lord I'm doing fine. I was afraid of the surgery because of my weight 112 lbs and my age I'm 61. I guess my good health and willpower and the good doctors and the power of prayer have brought me through all.
My doctor will continue monitoring the aneurysm behind the heart.
My children have all been advised to have scans and ultra sounds around the age of 50.
Update: 14 November 2006
I had my cat scan done October 31st, on my ascending aortic aneurysm and the aneurysm is still 3.2 and I will have another in October next year. I was delighted that it had not grown. My abdominal repaired aneurysm is doing fine and I am still in good health. I was advised to keep check on my blood pressure which I have not had any problems with.
My weight is steady now and I'm enjoying my new great grand daughter. Good health to all and my prayers for all. Good Luck.
