Just Your Average Teen

I am 17. Two years ago my brain hemorrhaged during a math test. The doctor thought I had a migraine and sent me for a CT. They found a swollen mass on the right side of my head.

My brother when he was 2 had an AVM in his brain stem, but he doesn't remember. They took the AVM out of my head, it was the size of a walnut.

There are still 5 more in my brain and I have two metal plates holding my skull together. I thank God every day that I'm still alive, because if more then one AVM hemorrhages at a time then I die.

Update 6 Apr 2000

I have had my secound brain surgery to remove AVMs. My first was in May 0f 97 and my secound January 2000. I have pictures of my secound brain surgery on my web page (see link below). I have also started a yahoo club for people with AVMs (clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/avm) My secound AVM was discovered swelling in my yearly MRI, and they decided that it should be removed. I still have at least 5 more in my brain, but they are small. The ones they removed grew to the size of wallnuts.

Note: Adam, recently had a second AVM removed. He has chonicled the event with photographs of the surgical procedure. They may be viewed at Adam's Mind Opening Experience.
