My Dad had an abdominal aortic aneurysm repaired 9 years ago. Today he is 76 years old. He was very lucky that it was found when it was and repaired. I don't remember how big it was at the time.
My Dad was always healthy and after this surgery seemed to feel even better. He managed to quit a heavy smoking habit and took better care of himself even continuing to work. This lasted for about 3 years when he was hit with some major health problems. He made it through the health problems and has been in robust health ever since.
About a year ago my Dad started experiencing some soreness in his right leg. It would come and go and he would mention it to his doctor who did not find anything wrong. Two months ago his leg REALLY started to pain him and this time his doctor found the pulse in his leg to be very weak. My Dad was referred to a vascular doctor who found that his AAA graft was blocked in this area. Two weeks ago my Dad had a femoral by-pass.
I guess what I am trying to communicate to anyone or maybe just to make myself feel a bit better, is why after 9 years is his AAA graft blocked? I know my Dad has had some "fibrosis" issues but the doctors don't know if this had something to do with this blockage. His doctors are top of the line and I know if they could have replaced they would have but said replacing the AAA graft was not an option in my Dad's case. I have been trying to find more information on this type of occurrence but have not been successful. If anyone has any ideas please let me know!
