The Last Thing I Remember3 May 2004 The last thing I remember is coming home from work on December 5th, with a huge head ache. I was sent to University of Colorado Hospital in Denver. It was there that my doctors and I made medical history. I underwent 8 procedures to repair the bleed on my brain. and the complications that come with it. While in the hospital I came down with pneumonia twice, had liver and kidney failure, a stroke and a heart attack. I am home now and getting stronger every day. It has definitely changed my life. Thank you for your interest in my story. Update: 7 July 2004 I had my first follow up angio last week after 6 months out of the hospital and 7 months post op. All looks good, my doctor's exact words were "get out there and live your life. I'll see you next January." So I am doing just that. Thank you so much family for all of your help and kind words I just needed to talk to people who had gone through similar experiences. Thanks again...I'll write in Jan and let you know how that angio goes. For now, I am going to live some life!! Update: 28 December 2004 I am now one year post aneurysm...my anniversary of rebirth was on Dec 5th. We have decided that since that was not such a good day for most of my family and myself we are not celebrating it. Instead we are celebrating the day I came home from the hospital. Which is Jan 21st. I really had a great Christmas as I hope everyone else did. We put up 2 trees...one for this year and one for last. I have been enjoying the season to the fullest...driving around and looking at lights. I would like to thank the family from the bottom af my heart for all they do. I have found great peace here. Update: 12 October 2008 On April 5th of this year, I got married! So I am now Ecko Prue. We had a wonderful honeymoon in Saint Lucia. If you ever get a chance to do one of those Sandals all inclusive resort vacations, I strongly recommend it. We had an amazing time and the people are so very friendly. St. Lucia is just beautiful. I really hope to go back there someday. We stayed about 5 days and came back home to Colorado, where spring was in full bloom. Time to get on the Harley and ride. We went on several day rides and etc. We left for our annual trip to Sturgis, SD on the 1st of August and spent about 5 days there, coming home on the 6th. As it turned out I was very sick, I don't remember much about the return trip or the days that followed. I ran a very high fever, and exhibited similar symptoms as my aneurysm, I was confused and delusional. I woke up in the Critical Care ward at Saint Francis Hospital here in Colorado Springs. As I later learned, my new husband had brought me into the ER on August 20th. I had a severe Urinary Track Infection, that must have been happening for a while (I don't remember any symptoms). They transferred me from the ER to CC the very next day as the infection was very severe and was creating several problems. They learned a day or so later that the infection had gotten into my blood and turned Sepsis. The Sepsis infection then attacked and started shutting down my kidneys and lungs. I was intebated on the 3rd day and stayed intebated for almost a week. I was in the CC ward for 12 days and then moved to general for a week. Again, a very close call for me. The DR's told my husband if he had gotten me into the ER even just a few hours later than he did, they would not have been able to stop the blood infection. I remember far more of the ordeal I went through than the last time I was in ICU, and let me tell you, it is not pleasant. I would much rather remember nothing. I was released from the hospital on September 5th. So, I have been home for 5 weeks now and I am doing much better. Getting stronger everyday. I do not need Dialysis at this point. I have one more blood draw and then we will be as sure as we can that it is all behind me. I am hoping for the best. My family and especially my husband went through another very scary, hard time. I am praying that this is behind all of us now. Hope this finds everyone well. I will now be very cognitive of infection. I don't think I will ever know exactly how this happened, or when. All I know is it was very scary. Thank you all for reading this and just being there in general. Discussion, comments, or questions: Ecko Knight © Copyright 2004 Ecko Knight |
