Hello my name is Feather and I am 25 years old. I wanted to thank everyone that wrote in the narratives. It helped me so much when I first found out that I had an aneurysm. Let me tell you my story.
I have always had headaches since I was in high school everyday. I never said anything I just always took Tylenol on a regular bases. Then I finally went to my primary care doctor in November 15th 2001. I then told her about all my headaches so she sent me to have an MRI/MRA done. I went alone my husband dropped me off because I thought it was nothing. When I got home the phone rang it was my primary care doctor. She then told me I had an aneurysm that I needed to have an angiogram done. Oh my god I started to cry I was so scared. I thought I am going to die!!
I called my mom who flew down from out of state and went with me to have the angiogram done. I went to the hospital. I will be perfectly honest for anyone who has never had this done before, it hurts so bad I can't even tell you how much. You have to lie on a cold metal table while they get a needle and put it in on your left side of your pelvic area. I am about 185 in pounds and they had to put it in 3 times to find the artery in which they do not put you to sleep because you have to hold your breath while they take the pictures. They do give some drugs like morphine which I did not know I was allergic to. Then when they insert the die in it feels like fire in your brain so hot. Then when they are done they get this metal clamp and lay it on top of your pelvis area it hurts bad. After that was completed you can't move your leg for 5 hours. You lay down that whole time. I was so so so sick from the morphine that was about the worst day of my life. That was worse than the surgery.
Well they did find out it was a 6mm aneurysm behind my right eye. I did go see an neurosurgeon for a couple of weeks then I was scheduled for surgery on December 6, 2001. The day I went to surgery all of my family was there. I can honestly say I was not scared I am not sure why?? The saddest part to me was when my dad came in and said he loves me. I can't tell you how I felt I thought that was the last day I was going to see him. I went in and It took 8 hours they clamped it. The doctor did come out and tell my family that I was very lucky because when she saw the aneurysm it was so thin it was ready to bust at any time.
I then was sent to ICU for 4 days I did have a problem with my right eye it was closing and would not open but all in all I came out alright. I don't remember anything except seeing my family in and out of ICU but that is it.
Well it is now June 18th 2003 and I still have headaches all the time I am not sure why? I am still seeing the Doctor regarding this matter. I do have a 20% chance of another one because my grandmother and great aunt passed away from aneurysms. Also because berry aneurysm the one in which I had sometimes come in bunches. So I will write back and let you know what the status is.
Thank You all so much and If anyone has any questions regarding surgery or the angiogram e-mail me I will be glad to talk to you.
Bye for now!
