Billy Humphries My name is Billy Humphries and I live in Raleigh, NC. I just remarried in July 2004 and have a wonderful 11 yr. old son. I have an Associate Degree in College Transfer from Wayne Community College from 1981. Currently, I am a student at a local community college studying to be a substance abuse counselor and am registered with the NCSAPCB. I just graduated from the Student Leadership Institute on 3/18/05. Also, this year I am on the Faculty Advisory Board for the Health Sciences Curriculum and serve as the student senator for the Human Sevices Association. I am also an independent Liscenced Health and Life Insurance Agent. I worked in retail sales management for a large building supply chain for 11 yrs. The company that I worked for went out of business. Not long after that drug addiction and alcoholism took complete control of my life. I have been clean and sober since May 5, 1999. I got very involved in 12 Step programs and currently serve as Public Information Chairperson and NC World Service Delegate for a large international 12 Step organization. Two years ago I quit my job in insurance sales to dedicate my life to helping others recover from addiction and alcoholism. I am the Executive Director for a start-up transitional recovery housing program for substance abusing men. My passion in life is to help others find a way of life free from the misery and pain of addiction and alcoholism. Say A Prayer For Me19 March 2005 I am scheduled to undergo endovascular graft surgery in 4 days at Duke Medical Center. I am a 46 yr. old white male weighing 363 lbs. I am a recovering addict an alcoholic with 6 years clean and sober. I also have hypertension, sleep apnea, hypothyroidism, degenerative disk disorder and have been diagnosed as being bipolar. I am a full time student studying to be a Substance Abuse Counselor. I had back pain two weeks ago and went to the ER. My wife is a sonographer at the hospital and was present when they looked at the xray. The physician on duty saw an abdominal aortic aneurysm and ordered a ct scan. I consider myself blessed that they spotted the aneurysm on the xray. I had my pre-op screening at Duke yesterday and will be going in for the procedure on 3/22/05. I have struggled with my weight problems and nicotine addiction. Say a prayer for me that I can overcome my weight problems and quit smoking. I'll keep ya'll posted.
