Many Prayers Were Said

30 March 2005

My name is Sheila. I just wanted to let people know what happened in my mom's case and let people on the website know that there is hope and there is power in prayer.

My mom had a Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm. My mom's aneurysm had gotten to almost 6 cm when she elected to have the surgery. Fear of it rupturing out weighed the fear of surgery. On March 17, 2004 she went in for surgery. Many prayers were said in the days leading up to her surgery because we knew what all of the risk were.

After several hours her doctor came out and said that the surgery went fine. Well about 30 minutes after that he had to come back out and tell us that there were complications and he had to rush her back to surgery. Long story short.....my mom had to be on a respirator for almost a month, she had developed ARDS. Because of that she had to be very heavily sedated so it was like she was in a coma. She was very, very, very swollen from head to toe. When the respirator had been in for so long they had to put a trach in so that her vocal cords would not be damaged. My mom also had some open wounds after the surgery(s).

My mom has always been my best friend and this was the hardest time that I have ever had to go through. Each day I would pray and believe. My church prayed. I asked every one that believed in the power of prayer to pray for her. My mom was in the CVICU unit from March 17th, 2004 until April 15,2004, and in a respiratory rehab center from April 15th, 2004 until May 3, 2004. But now for the good news...

God answers prayer. Before she left the CVICU unit she was off of the respirator and only on oxygen through her trach. Before she left the respiratory rehab center the trach was out. She came home with open wounds but my aunt and I took care of them and they completely healed in about 2 months. Now here it is a year and 4 days later and my mom is doing wonderful. It was a long healing process but she is healed.

I just want people to know that prayer is so powerful. Don't get me wrong I know that sometimes it is the Lord's will to not heal people here on earth but rather to take them on to be with him. I just wanted to share my story to let people know that it is scary but that sometimes the outcome is good. It is not always bad.

I had found this website before my mom's surgery and I would sit and read all of the stories. Some very sad, some good. It is very stressful for the family members as well as the patient but I encourage you to seek the Lord and He will get you through each and every situation. Thank you for your time.

Love and Prayers.
