I lost my husband William (Bill) Fowlie on July 10th, 2006 from what they told me a tear in his aorta. He was absolutely fine the morning he got up, he went out for his coffee and newspaper and was so happy. He returned home and I was painting the hallway where he changed his clothes to help me and that's when it hit him.
He was in our family room calling out for me. When I took a look at him, he was in very very severe pain in his chest and I immediately gave him two aspirin in what I thought it was a heart attack. I don't know if this made him worse or not. Then I phoned 911.
While I was waiting for them to arrive, Bill told me he could not see anything, this lasted about three minutes, then he said he was getting his eye sight back. I never understood what happened there.
He was taken to the local hospital and then they took him by helicopter to Deborah Hospital where they did a heart catherization on him and that doctor told me his findings and said he needed major surgery. He went into surgery for six hours but never made it.
This is a terrible shock to get over with. I feel that maybe I could have done something to have helped him.
The day before we were working out in the garden and he was digging a small tree up, could this have caused this. I live with guilt over him taking out that small tree, I don't know if that made it worse for him. Maybe someone can help me to understand this.
Thanking you in advance.
