On November 8th 2001 my mother after her morning tea suffered a ruptured brain aneurism. She is 65. She vomited with 4 to 5 minutes of pain in the head, several times. She became very drowsy and was unable to walk within 10 minutes.
WE took her to a nearby hospital and the doc said that her blood pressure was unusually high (267) and he would have to admit her. On further investigations (CT scan) we found out that she had suffered from hemorrhage and that we would have to transfer her to another hospital. Her angiogram was carried out in the other hospital which confirmed her hemorrhage.
Doctors advised on endovascular repair of the rupture which could be done by a surgeon who specialize in such a thing. This doc is at another hospital and hence we had to transfer her again to another hospital. The clipping was performed using a small platinum coil. The aneurism is very small and was hard to clip. Hence th procedure took about 3 - 4 hours. However mother is on her way to recovery. Its only the 4th day today (November 11) after the initial rupture. I hope she pulls out of this and recovers 100%.
Update: 25 Dec 2002
My mother is doing very well. She has recovered fully. The aneurism had been taken care of by balloon angioplasty carried out by a very famous Mumbai doctor (Dr. Uday Limaye) at KEM hospital in Mumbai. Though the aneuyrism was very tiny, he skillfully put a coil on it, within two days of its burst. After that things are much better. Mom's blood pressure is under control (mom never had any history of blood pressure before) and so is her diabetes.
Though mom's memory (short term) is not very good, she still the same loving, concerned person she always is. Also her eye sight has weekened. But all that is ok, we are managing.
