Headache From Hell
1 June 2006
I just wanted to tell my storey all be it a sad one about my best friend my Mom Lorraine it was January 1999.
I called my mom as I did every day around 1.30pm because this was the time she was home from work her (1st shift) she sounded like she had a bit of a cold and said that she had not been to work that day as she had a very bad head ace and needed to see a doctor, I called our local GP out, he came around 4.00pm and gave her a prescription for some anti-bionics said she has the flu, shortly after I asked my partner Graham if he would collect her medicine and I would go to her house after work.
I called my mom to tell her that he was on the way she started saying strange things like the Dr had not been out to see her and that she did not have any prescriptions, totally confused by all this I called the Dr he was friends with my Mom as she worked in the local care home and said it was very strange he had most defiantly seen her and left medicine for her, I then called Graham on his mobile who just arrived at Moms said he had the prescription in is hand and would collect it, by this point I did not know what to think I left work to go and see her.
When I got there she was still saying the Dr had not been out and that she had fallen down the stairs I called the Dr again he said take her to A&E, I drove Mom there where she was left sitting round having all sorts of tests, I was told that she had a rash, feeling sick, stiff neck all the signs of meningitis and they put her on the "tropical Disease Ward" and would let us know when the blood results came back there findings, and suggested we went home as there was nothing more could be done that night.
The next day 9.00am sharp me and my brother took yourself back to the hospital to find out what was going on, Mom was were we had left her still the same with clear results back I asked the Dr what was wrong with her they just did not know and they had still had not ruled out Meningitis they would do a lumber puncher to remove fluid from her spine and let us know if or what they found.
During this time she was still saying strange things but all through this she kept saying she needed a brain scan that something very strange was going on a very sane 51 year old respected Lady if only some one had just listened, any way the results came back as there was blood in the spinal fluid but it was "fresh blood" they must have hit a nerve when they took the sample this was the explanation we were given and to discharge that PM diagnosis Migraine.
I took my mom back to my house (Friday) for the weekend still no wiser what was wrong she said she felt a bit better and by the Monday wanted to go home my brother all our family took time to see her call her and agreed she seemed a bit better, that following weekend she invited myself my partner and at the time my 2 year old daughter for lunch and on the Monday 26th January she went to my brothers house for tea saying she wanted to go back to work the following week.
My brother said she enjoyed her self and seemed very well, he called me at work the next day 12.30 to say he had been calling the house and there was no reply had I spoken to her? I called her no answer so I again asked my partner to check on her I was on my way some how I just knew he said he could see her sitting on the settee but could not get her to the door I had a key and when I went in I tried to wake her it was too late she was gone the ambulance arrived followed by the police the Dr 2 hours later and then taken to the local morgue were it was confirmed my mom had passed with a Subarachnoide Haemorrhage.
She left a great big hole in our hearts My daughter just could not understand were her nanny was and I wonder why the hospital did not recognise the symptoms and why I did not take her to a different hospital for a second option, would she have ever been the same person has she survived I will never know.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
