Ascending Aorta Aneurysm

13 November 2006

My name is Phillip Causey. I was diagnosed with a 4.8 cm aneurysm on my ascending aorta in May of 2003. In the intervening three years it has not grown or changed.

I am scheduled for a CT scan tomorrow (November 14) to check on the status of the aneurysm. I always get a little nervous before those tests. I am 6'4" and weigh approximately 370 lbs and have been told that I am not a candidate for elective repair due to my size.

I am currently on a medically supervised VLCD (very low calorie diet) to reduce my weight for a planned knee replacement on January 23rd of 2007. I have lost approximately 34 lbs so far.

The vascular surgeon who is monitoring the growth of my aneurysm wants to check on the status of the aneurysm prior to granting his blessing to me being put under general anesthesia for the knee surgery.

I have been reading this board for the last 3 years and appreciate the opportunity to read and correspond with a few of you for support.

Update: 29 November 2006

I got my CT scan results today and still no growth and no dissection so Dr. Kennedy gave his blessing for my knee replacement surgery scheduled for January but he wants to discuss the "need for strict blood pressure control while I am under general anesthesia" with Dr Almand (Orthopaedic Surgeon). So it is good news. Praise God.

Discussion, comments, or questions: Phillip Causey
