A HAND IN MINE

Brain Injury Is: losing your faith in your belief system because you know that no God could allow such loss and pain.

There is no God, I loudly claim,
That would allow such loss and pain.
This fact is true, I know for sure,
There are these fates I must endure.
From my cloud that fateful night,
Just lying there in the light,
"We're losing him," I heard them say,
"He might not last another day".
I could not see, I was alone,
I had no fear of going Home.
I didn't fade, it wasn't time,
That's when I felt a hand in mine.
I tried to see, but couldn't find
The person standing by my side.
He gave me strength, I don't know why,
He said its not my time to die.
He said there's still much work to do,
He said there's people who love you too.
He said, "Be strong, its not your time",
That person there with hand in mine.
My faith was shattered by a stroke,
There is no God for me to choke.
I'm sure He left me at that time,
But who was there with hand in mine?
The wife is gone, the business, too.
Some friends are left, but just a few.
I lost my car, I lost my home,
No God could leave me this alone.
And so one day with loaded gun,
In my deer stand I had begun
To make a plan to end it all,
I picked a place where I could fall.
I felt the gun up by my head
But heard a voice that softly said,
"Release your hand, it isn't time."
Again I felt a hand in mine.
There is no God I said before,
But who can really know for sure.
Whose hand was that that fateful night,
That held me close there in the light,
It wasn't God, how could it be?
Didn't God abandon me?
And 'bout that hand up in the tree
Who took my gun and set me free,
The voice that said it wasn't time
Belongs to the hand that's holding mine.
