My Beautiful Mother

23 February 2005

My mother was skiing on the beautiful ski slopes of Vermont when she passed out and was rushed to the hospital. The doctors told us right away that a rather large aneurysm had rutpured in her brain. They did not know whether she would make it or not.

My mom spent 3 weeks in the ICU. She had a breahting tube in. Her vasospasms were rather severe, and because she was draining blood properly she had to have a shunt put in. After about a month in the hospital she was transfered to out-patient therapy, where she recieved physical, speech and cognitive rehab. Three days ago she came home.

My mother is a beautiful woman, full of life and love. She is 47 years old, and was always healthy. She returned to us a little different.

She walks all by herself, although her balance is a little off. She is often tired and has a headache. But the thing that bothers me the most is her loss of memory. She will remember things from the past, but her short term memory is almost non-existent. She will not remember anything you tell her, even if it was 2 minutes ago. She constantly asks the same questions, even though I have answered her about 50 times. Also, its like her mind makes up things. For instance, my mother will claim she went to church, or that she did some shopping, when all she did was sit home.

Other than that she is doing fine. She seems to be happy most of the time, but she still needs constant supervision. I am just praying to the Dear Lord that her memory will return with time. I know the doctors said that it takes time, to be patient, but I'm jsut really worried. Can someone tell me if they experienced any of these things? I have no one else to turn to.

Thank you all and God Bless.
