The Last Train to Pine Mountain, November 17, 2007

On November 17, 2007, Georgia Southwestern Railroad ran an excursion train from Columbus to Greenville, the last train through Pine Mountain before the tracks were removed. A railcar (speeders) excursion followed on November 18th. Shortly after that, Georgia Southwestern began dismantling the tracks. Future plans include converting the line to a bike and walking path.

Operated by the Georgia Southwestern Railway, the last passenger train pulls into Pine Mountain. Georgia Southwestern 6308 brings the train to an easy stop. GSW 6308 rests while passengers detrain in town.
GSW 6302 has uncoupled so that all of the crossings in town are not blocked. GA Southwestern 6302 and sister 6308 are rebuilt EMD F-9s. Passengers rode in refurbished, air conditioned coaches.
With all of the passengers unloaded, GSW 6302 backs to a coupling with her train. The train is now back together and is ready to leave Pine Mountain for Durand. As the train rolls north, GSW 6302 quickly disappears around the curve and the last train to Pine Mountain is gone.
