      1. Topic- 


            Based on GPS M1G1 - Students will study and create various two and 
            three dimensional figures and identify basic figures (squares, 
            circles, triangles, and rectangles) 

             

      2. Content- 


            a. Build, draw, and describe triangles, rectangles, pentagons, and 
            hexagons. 
            b. Build, represent, name and describe cylinders, cones, and 
            rectangular prisms. 
            c. Create pictures and designs using shapes, including overlapping 
            shapes.
             

      3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes- 


            1. Shapes - how many sides? 
            2. Create patterns with shapes through a drawing. 
            3. Draw shape given on recall. 

             

      4. Objectives- 


            1. Sorting shapes - by shape, number of sides, etc. 
            2. Comparison - How are shapes different? alike? 
            3. How do shapes fit together to make other shapes?
             

      5. Materials and Aids- 


            1. The Shape Escape Movie 
            2. Shape Powerpoint template 
            3. Shape coloring sheets 
            4. Shape blocks 
            5. Play Doh/Clay 

             

      6. Procedures/Methods- 


      A. Introduction-
            1. Using blocks, show blocks to class and ask if they know the 
            shape. 
            2. Show class the shape chart included in the movie.
             

      B. Development-
            1. Show the Movie Maker VP 2 
            2. Review the shape chart. 
            3. Take class on an "I Spy" walk on the campus, looking for shapes.
             

      C. Practice-
            1. Place different shape blocks in a box, and ask student to "feel" 
            the block and tell you what is the shape. 
            2. Using clay, ask the student to mold one of the shapes discussed.
             

      D. Independent Practice-
            1. Using color sheets, re-enforce the learning of shapes. 
            2. Repeat the clay activity. 

             

      E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

             

      F. Checking for understanding-
            1. Reviewe the shape chart again, asking students to identify the 
            shape pointed at. 
            2. Display images of shapes - ask students to identify. 
            3. Show the Powerpoint shape template.
             

      G. Closure-
            1. Have students draw a picture of a house and sky, using a 
            triangle, square, circle.
