Fairy
tales are found in oral and in literary form. They are a sub-genre of
folk tales and include many subjects and are not
just about fairies. It often includes stories about a main character and a lesson. Evidence of literary works show that fairy tales have existed for thousands of years. Watch the video below to see a famous fairy tale called "The ugly Duckling" written by Danish poet Hans Christian Andersen. Today
you will be a Fairy tale author
and your
purpose is to create an original fairy tale
First teacher
will separate students in
groups and each member will choose a fairy tale story. These
tales are found in the links below.
Just
click on a book and choose the story you would like to read. Every
member of your group must choose a different fairy tale to read. Group
members will get
together and tell each other which one you have chosen then start
reading. (click on name)to share with everyone, have fun! Your
first task will be to work in groups.
Then you will create a chart in groups to compare each of the stories you have read. Click here to print a copy of the chart and use it to compare the stories your group members read. On the side of the chart, record the title of each story, as well as the name of the country from which it came. Once the above task is completed, you will be ready to create your own original fairy tale.
The final paper will be graded based on the following rubric. Follow it carefully and make sure to proofread. Make sure your story has a defined beginning, middle and end.

The main purpose of this assignment is for the student to learn about fairy tales and ultimately create their own. The student will have picked a story of their choice and used the chart to analyze it. Finally the student will work on their own fairy tale using the rubric and will email it and peer edit.
